Thanksgiving

This last week we had a fun time cleaning up by the stack yard (down at the field.) We took down some hot dogs, soda and pop cycles. We all had a fun time roasting the hot dogs. The fire sure was hot, and our sticks not nearly long enough, but it took just a few seconds and they were done. It might be a good year from now, but I can hardly wait for us to lay our paver fire pit patio in our back/side yard. I know we will use it a ton.

.................................................................
Another day this week we built a couple more mangers by the stack yard, cut a large pile of wood with our wood chopper, and got the biggest load of hay yet. It seems like this week was pretty busy. What am I saying? All of our weeks have seemed just as busy, we're simply doing different things. Life is great! There is so much to do, that we never get bored of doing the same thing over and over.

.................................................................
This year I volunteered to head up our big Thanksgiving Feast for my dad's side of the family. Grandma felt as though she had gotten to the stage where she just couldn't put it on any more. I don't blame her. All those years, with no hesitation in the planning of it all. It was my turn to see if I too could pull it off. I actually really enjoyed it. I felt as though I got to know people in the family a lot better through the process of it all. It made me realize even more so how much I love my family and would do anything for them. All of them pulled together and made this year's dinner very successful.

I volunteered to take one of the turkeys. That was a little scary, seeing how I had never had to cook one before. This is how it turned out....Twenty-five pounds and 4 1/2 hours later.

Here we are, all 53 of us eating. There was more than enough food. We could have fed another 50+ people.
Afterwards we had a little program. Every family was supposed to share something. There was such a good variety., It was fun to see cousins and their children sharing their talents. These are just pictures of my family, but I have many more where they came from.

After the program, we had a surprise birthday party for my grandpa. He will be 90 in December, but we decided that since there was going to be a lot of family around, we throw him a party while we were all together. We asked questions, and he answered them all. We broke a pinata, and even had cake. I wanted to have some, but due to all the other food I was too full. I loved hearing all of the things that grandpa shared with us about his life. Many of them I hadn't heard before.
...................................................................
Yesterday we helped out on my husband's side of the family. We all met at grandpa's old barn and cleaned up. Grandma didn't think it would take too long, but after an entire day of raking, burning, hauling, etc., she realized that there was a lot more there that grandpa had collected, than she had realized. It was fun working and visiting with family. Heck, we even had another great meal of left over Thanksgiving food. Mama Mary's slush topped it all off. what a great day it was.

I am amazed at your busy life!! You are amazing. By the way, the potty training story is a classic. I'm glad that stuff happens to other people too!
