Alright, so I haven't died, and I don't plan on doing so for quite some time, but it sure seemed like it as I looked at the last time I posted anything. Man, where does time fly? I mean really? I have been so busy with life. Nothing special, or fancy...just plain, old life. I don't have anything too spectacular to report on. J did take our two older boys elk hunting two weeks in a row, and I have been vinalizing everything (that's been a hoot), but the one thing that I would like to share, is a little bit more on a religious note.
As I sat around the dinning room table with my children a couple of days ago, tears began to swell within my eyes. We had done it! The goal that we had set for ourselves year after year, and had never accomplished, had just taken place. After one year, ten months and six days later, The J Slack family completed reading the Book of Mormon. This was pretty monumental for us. After reading 1st and 2nd Books of Nephi about 50 times, we had decided that no matter how long it took us, we would sit as a family, read, discuss and apply each chapter of the Book of Mormon to our lives. I was so overcome by the Spirit after our completion. I found myself speechless for a few minutes. Not my children. They instantly held their scriptures high in the air and began singing at the top of their lungs, "Scripture Power." After singing it through three times, they all ran over and gave me a hug. I heard various comments from each of them. A few were, "It's about time!" "Finally!" "Wow! That took us forever!" But the one comment that I loved most of all, was "What a great feeling we have now. We now know that we can read the whole Book of Mormon. Let's do it again, and try to read it faster this time."
What more can I ask for than that? Children who love to read the scriptures, and can hardly wait to begin again. How blessed I am, and how grateful I am for the gospel; for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. How grateful I am for a Living Prophet here upon the earth today. I am grateful for the prophets of old, who have written down their history. I am grateful for my children to recognize the scriptures as such, and are willing and excited to write their own history in journals. Today I am simply feeling grateful. And what a good feeling that is.

You are a hoot!!!! Your ordinary life..your life is anything but plain. You are the busiest person I know. Yet you found time to read what I wrote and write the sweetest, most touching, thoughtful words to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are a wonderful friend. And congrats on finishing the Book of Mormon!!!! You're a spectacular mother and person, thank you, I am blessed to call you my friend~
What a sweet feeling to cherish!
So happy for you Lor! Loved your post.
Just finished it again with our family tonight too! We've got different dynamics but it's still an accomplishment that brings many blessings!
Love that experience... that is going to help me to feel motivated to read... Thank you for the update!!
Ditto to all of that!! Congrats!
Good for you! My family has slacked off on reading it. I will attempt to get them back on track so we can finish again.
I'm glad my family isn't the only one that has read 1st and 2nd Nephi several times. This gives me the inspiration I need to get going with this goal in our family!! Thanks!
